Prabhuddha Karnataka

Prabuddha Karnataka is one of the few mature newspapers in India. Prabhapunja, Pratibhavalaya, Hosagannada, built by the enlightened Karnataka Krishna Shastris, can never forget the great role played by the Prabuddha Karnataka in opening up a new Manvantara. If Karnataka Sangha is the fruit of his efforts, Prabuddha Karnataka is the fruit of his visionary genius.

The Karnataka Sangha, which was born as a sum of Akhanda Karnataka, enabled it to expand its branches all over Karnataka. This appears to be a commendable matter. Maharaja College, Mysore was its sister association, where the 'Karnataka Association' arose. Both the very first 'Karnataka Sanghas', which have served immensely in the revival of Kannada literature, were established within the University. Later, both the Sanghas together enabled the growth of ‘Prabuddha Karnataka' and the Sangha of Central College, Bangalore was seen as the mother Sangha as a model for all Karnataka Sanghas. For this, it was thought that B. Venkatanarayanappa, who was a professor of physics at Central College, should be made the president first. Finally AR Krishnashastri himself was appointed as the president of the association. It can be seen here that Prabuddha Karnataka, which grew under his editorship, elevated him to the position of President of the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.

There are two platforms established by Krishnashastris in Central College to make the youth and scholars of different languages interact with each other, one is 'Karnataka Sangha', another is 'Prabuddha Karnataka' which was started in 1919. There is an immense hope behind the start of any newspaper or work. Also they are born due to the social conditions of that time. Similarly, in the beginning of the 20th century, the status of Kannada was cornered, and Kannada itself was in a state of insignificance. Then A.R. Krishnashastri was seen as a pulse for Kannada. Prabuddha Karnataka was started in 1919 under the shadow of 'Karnataka Sangh' to give a new spirit to Kannada which was cornered.

Vijnana Karnataka

This is the second magazine published by Prasaranga. The editorial board decided to bring a science magazine into existence at least during the golden festival of Prabuddha Karnataka, and it was decided that it should be on the model of 'Scientific American'. As a result of the wish of Lord Javare Gowda, Vigyana Karnataka was born to commemorate the golden festival of enlightened Karnataka. It was born in 1969. It started as a newspaper in November 1970. BS Bolegowda and JR Laxmanrao worked as the editors of its first issue.

De. Javare Gowda says that Vijnana Karnataka is the daughter of enlightened Karnataka. The gentlemen who worked for this are the proud literature of Kannada. Its interest and expressions led to new thinking. In line with this speech, the words spoken by De.Javaregowda about J.R.Laxman Raya are commendable here. His feat of compiling 1562 pages of 57 articles into a science issue is commendable. The story of the last twenty-five years of scientific progress is the subject of these articles. It can be said that no Indian language has ever produced such a comprehensive book. In this field it is like reaching “Gourishankara”, it is like an adventure of Tensing! This is a powerful challenge to Kannada media opponents! He said that this is a blow to the skeptics who say that Kannada is not a scientific language. It can be understood here that these episodes, which came up when Kannada media had no value in Kannada land, silenced those who seemed ignorant of foreign language and Kannada literature.

They also warned that there are people who write without complaint in Kannada media and language. Thus many facts of science became known to Kannadigas.

Articles published in the issue of Science Top articles about the development of science, the contribution of science in relevance were published here. Major Milestones in the History of Science Subject Index Articles on Copernicus and Galileo, Newton and Leibniz, Newton and Physics, James Watt and the Steam Engine, Michael Parade, Charles Darwin, Gregor Mendel, Louis Pasteur, Madame Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Alexander Fleming etc. Brief Biographies , made his contribution to the field of science available in Kannada.

Advances in Science in the Last Twenty-Five Years - A Bird's Eye View Subject Index: Physics by R. L. Narasimhaiah, Chemistry by K. Srinivasan and J. R. Laxman Rao, Biochemistry by M. R. Raghavendra Rao, Medicine by S. V. Rama Rao, S. G. Ramachandra's brief introduction to other branches of science such as architecture and their progress will open the matter. In addition to world science, nuclear energy, mediums, space research, aviation, maser and laser radio, astronomy, supercooling and its images, historical research, scientific instruments, nature of biochemistry, origin of life, plastics and artificial fibers, cell, genetics, human welfare. From these it will be known that the articles about micro-organisms, anti-biotics, hormones, food science and food technology, psychological effects of drugs, cancer are still digging their existence even after forty five years and the researches going on in the current situation and the experimental success is being seen in the field of micro-science even today with much discussion. It is a great gift for the Kannada readers that new researches are coming in the form of articles in Kannada about the effects of drugs, nuclear, molecules, shape research, aviation, cells, genetics, antibiotics, nutrition, medicine.

Manavika Karnataka

The first episode of 'Vijnana Karnataka' started on the occasion of the golden festival of Prabuddha Karnataka. Writing in it, De.Javare Gowda, who was the Editor-in-Chief at that time, clearly expressed the instruction that appeared in the meeting of the editorial board, praying to the Kannada Kuladaiva Bhagwati, that another quarterly dedicated to “Samajasha”s should be formed as soon as possible under the name of 'Manavika Karnataka'. Hence humanistic Karnataka was able to form very quickly. It emerged as a Kannada magazine devoted to humanities, loved by discerning readers.

It was decided to publish the first issue of 'Manavika Karnataka' on Rajyotsava 1970 (November 1). It also got permission from the university. Accordingly, it was published on that day. In these days, when there is an unprecedented desire for the status that Kannada should naturally get in the educational administrations of the country, it is the responsibility of those who play it to equip Kannada with those objectives. Our freedom gets a true meaning when our languages completely cover our lives. Profitability is the key to our progress. The need to use our languages is no longer a matter of debate. Moments like the publication of 'Manavika Karnataka' are important in stopping that debate and turning it into action.

In the inaugural issue of Manavika Karnataka, the scope and purpose of the paper was stated thus. The scope of this paper is wide. All subjects except scientific literature fall under its purview. Useful, thoughtful and research articles, review essays in the fields of Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, History, Archaeology, Journalism, Linguistics, Geography, Jurisprudence, Criminology, Librarianship, Anthropology, Commerce, Music, Dance, Painting, Architecture etc. The purpose of the magazine is to publish articles, reviews, essays, etc in these fields. This paper has shown that any topic can be said effectively in Kannada.

The editor-in-chief of this magazine, which was born in 1970, is the director of Kuvempu Kannada Studies Institute. Accordingly, the editor-in-chief of the first issue was H.M. Nayak. SS Krishnaswamy Iyengar (HCESAI) and AV Narasimhamoori were its first editors.
